2012 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games
The Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games are held every two years alternating between summer and winter games.  In 2012, the Manitoba Summer Games will be held in Swan Valley July 15 to 21.  Triathlon will once again be one of the 12 sports taking part, and will compete in Phase 2.

Athletes in the 12&13 and 14&15 year age category, from throughout the province, will compete. There will be 12 athletes per region, (three males and three females in each of the two age categories).  Athletes 12 & 13 as of December 31, 2012 (born in 1999 or 2000) will complete a 300m swim + 10K bike + 3K run.  Athletes 14 & 15 as of December 31, 2012 (born in 1997 or 1998) will complete a 500m swim + 10K bike + 4K run.

There will also be a Regional Relay during the games.  Teams of three will be made up with each individual consecutively completing the whole course after an echange by their team mate.

  • Eligible athletes must meet the Manitoba residence policy set out by the Manitoba Games General Rules.
  • Eligible athletes must meet the selection criteria.
  • Athletes must be 12 to 15 years of age on December 31st, 2012. This means all athletes must be born between January 1st, 1997 and December 31st, 2000.

Selection Criteria
  • Six athletes (3 male and 3 female) will be selected for the 12/13 age category and six athletes (3 male and 3 female) will be selected for the 14/15 age category for each Regional Team.
  • The objective of this selection process is to select the Team that is most capable of achieving podium performances at the Games, or helping the team achieve the best team ranking amongst the other regions.
  • Athletes will be selected using a points system based on the points table (see link below).  Athletes with the highest point’s total that will fill the appropriate number of spots, will be selected to their respective regional team.  Athletes must have a combined points total using a swim time (based on 400m) and a run time (based on 3000m).  Athletes must equal or beat the time posted in the points table in order to receive those points eg. A swim time of 0:07:07 will be awarded 62 points.
  • In case there is a tie in the number of points attained, selection will then be based on head to head finishing results at events in the 2012 race season prior to the June 25th, 2012 selection deadline.  If more than one head to head result is available, then the combined difference will be used to make the selection.
