Patrick Peacock and Edie Fisher win second
consecutive race in Grand Prix Series while husband and wife team Marc and Cherrie
Fournier win the second consecutive race in the Sprint Series!
Triathlon
Manitoba is pleased to announce the success of the weekend of triathlon events in Pinawa. Saturday July 8, 2000 a Kids of Steel race was
staged for children ages 8 16 and Sunday July 9th the 6th
Annual Raivo Tamm Triathlon was hosted.
The Kids of
Steel event on Saturday was for children ages 8 -16 years ran with 49 participants, this
event was also the Eastman Regional Qualifier for the 2000 MTS Manitoba Summer Games
Triathlon Event. The winner in the Junior Girl category (100m swim, 5km bike, 1km run) was
Samantha Cross with a time of 20:44. Samantha is a newcomer to the sport and this event
was her second triathlon. The Junior Boy who
placed first was Brett Ploffe in 19:35. In
the Senior Category (200m swim, 10km bike, 2km run) the first place girl was Karla Rae
Buga of Brandon in 34:35, and the first place senior boy was Lennon Harder with a time of
32:30.
The Overall
Female winners of the Standard Distance (1500m swim, 40k bike, 10k run) were as follows:
in first place was Edie Fisher in 2:13:53. Second
place was captured by Jenny Ayers in 2:23:52. Third
place went to Carina Rondeau in 2:28:30. All
three of these top finishing women belong to the Tribalistic Triathlon Club.
On the men's
side the Overall Male winner in the Standard Distance was Patrick Peacock with the fastest
time of the day in 2:01:36. Following in
second was fellow Tribe member Rob Vallis in 2:02:31.
Third place went to junior triathlete, Kevin Breiter from the Triple Threat
Triathlon Club in 2:04:09.
In the
Sprint Distance category ( 750 m swim / 20k bike / 5k run) the first women across the line
was Cherrie Fournier, of the Tribe in 1:17:28. Second
place went to Kara Foley, a youth competitor in 1:21:08, following in third was another
youth triathlete and Triple Threat Club member Amy Briscoe in 1:24:10.
On the male
side, Marc Fournier, president of the Tribalistic Triathlon Club joined his wife in
claiming top placing honors in a time of 1:09:56, this was the fastest time in the Sprint
Category. Second placed went to a youth
athlete and a Triple Threat member, Justin Campbell in 1:14:58. Third place was taken by Steve Cann in 1:15:47.
A new event
distance this year was the addition of a duathlon (5km run / 40km cycle / 10km run). The
top placing female was Kathy Butler from Morden in 2:37:14, following in second was Martha
Laverock of Pinawa in 2:45:54. Third place
went to Linda West of Winnipeg in 2:52:34.
On the men's
side Kevin Miller, of the Triple Threat Club claimed first place in 2:25:35. Following in second was Rick Demetrioff of the
Sub2 Triathlon Club in 2:34:33. Third place
went to Dave West of Winnipeg in 2:43:01.
