July 31, 2000 --- Sandman Triathlon results


Triathlon Manitoba is pleased to announce the success of the 4th Annual Sandman Triathlon at its new location in Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba.  The race organized by the Hammerheads and Sub2 Triathlon Clubs and the tremendous community support made for a great race for the 140 participants who raced in the 28C heat. 

The first event of the day was the Standard Distance Triathlon (1500m swim / 40k bike / 10k run) which got under way at 8:45am.  The overall male winner was Philippe Chabot, from the Triple Threat Triathlon Club, in first place with a time of 2:09:59.  Following in second was junior athlete, Allan Scott, in 2:12:55, third place went to newcomer Marcus Blouw in 2:15:29. 

On the women’s side the Tribalistic Triathlon Team women claimed all three top places. Edie Fisher again retained the first place spot in a time of 2:21:48.  Carina Rondeau followed in 2:35:27, third place went to Shawna Rutherford in 2:47:16. 

The Sprint Event (750m swim / 20km bike / 5km run) saw Kim Gusdal as the first women across the line in 1:16:31.  Youth athlete Jill Dobrinsky placed second in 1:18:55.  Third place went to Susan Leier in 1:19:36. 

On the men’s side Dale Kirk came in first in 1:13:31, following in second was Youth Athlete Corey Kolbuck in 1:14:17.  Third place was a tie between Brent Miller and Glen McDermid who sprinted down the finish stretch to finish in 1:15:27 

The Tri-a-Tri distance (300m swim / 10k bike / 2.5k run) for new or beginning competitors to the sport had sixteen people give the distance a try.   First place went to Candice Tremblay in 43:45; followed by Bethany Olson in 44:49; while third place went to Wendy Smith in 50:40. 

The men’s side saw Andrew Palmer come in first in 37:37,   Colin Zammit finished in second with a 39:43 finish.  The third place finisher was Mike McAdam in 46:39. 

The fourth event of the day was a duathlon (5k run / 40k bike / 10k run).  Martha Laverock was the top women competitor in 2:50:43.  For the men, Kevin Miller finished first in 2:35:04.  Following in second was Dennis McSherry in 2:55:08.  Third place went to Will Daley in 3:22:19. 

The next events on the Triathlon Manitoba Race Calendar are a long weekend full of triathlons.  On Saturday August 5th in Kenora veteran Triathlete Edie Fisher is hosting the Essex Road Sprint Mountain Bike Triathlon and Kids of Steel event.  Then on Monday the 7th the annual Betulaman Triathlon is being held at Betula Lake.  This event also features a sprint mountain bike triathlon and Kids of Steel event.  For more information on any of these events or complete results please call Triathlon Manitoba at 925-5636 or check out our website at www.triathlon.mb.ca
