September 10, 2000 --- Kids of Steel Wind-up Results


Triathlon Manitoba is pleased to announce the success of the triathlons held in Birds Hill Provincial Park on Sunday September 10th. 

The Tykes and Trikes event for children ages 7 years and under was held first.  There were 9 participants in the event.  The fastest tyke was Andrew Bredin.   

The Kids of Steel event was held next with 82 participants.  The winner in the Junior Girl category (100m swim, 5km bike, 1km run) was Jacqueline Coles with a time of 20:26.  The Junior Boy who placed first was Kyle Crowston, of Brandon, with a time of 19:14.  In the Senior category, (200m swim, 10km bike, 2km run) the first place girl was Erin Braun with a time of 34:06, and the first place boy was Jacques Marcoux with a time of 31:30. 

New to the event this year was the Try-a-Tri.  We had 11 participants in this event.  First place for the men went to Sam Dumcum, of Beausejour, with a time of 52:57.  On the women’s side we had Amy Briscoe, a Junior Development Team member, come in first with a time of 53:22. 

After the race, the 2000 Kids of Steel Series Champions were announced: 

Boys 8 & 9 years old:  Corey Hampson
Girls 8 & 9 years old:  Jacqueline Coles
Boys 10 & 11 years old:  Ryan DePape
Girls 10 & 11 years old:  Serena Bredin & Samantha Cross
Boys 12 & 13 years old:  Lennon Harder
Girls 12 & 13 years old:  Karla-Rae Buga
Boys 14 to 16 years old:  Brent Miller
Girls 14 to 16 years old:  Erin Braun
