July 9, 2001 --- Pinawa Triathlon Results


Triathlon Manitoba is pleased to announce the success of the weekend of triathlon events in Pinawa. Saturday July 7th, 2001 a Kids of Steel race was staged for children ages 8 -16 and Sunday July 8th the Pinnacle Triathlon Team hosted the Pinawa Free Spirit Triathlon and Duathlon.

The Kids of Steel event on Saturday for children ages 8 -16 years ran with 51 participants. The winner in the Junior Girl category (100m swim, 5km bike, 1km run) was Serena Bredin with a time of 19:17. The Junior Boy who placed first was Brett Ploffe in 19:10. In the Senior Category (200m swim, 10km bike, 2km run) the first place girl was Jacqueline Coles in 35:30, and the first place senior boy was Erich Krzysztofik with a time of 30:50.

On Sunday 120 participants took part in the days events. Overall Female winners of the Standard Distance (1500m swim, 40k bike, 10k run) were as follows: in first place was Edie Fisher in 2:14:00; Edie has won all three Grand Prix events to date. Jenny Ayers captured second place in 2:22:05. Third place went to Tammy Eccles in 2:44:34.

On the men's side the Overall Male winner in the Standard Distance was Philippe Chabot with the fastest time of the day in 2:03:59. Following in second was Darcey Harder in 2:05:47. Third place went to Allan Scott in 2:07:24.

In the Sprint Distance category (750 m swim / 20k bike / 5k run) the first women across the line was youth athlete Erin Braun in 1:06:33, this is Erin's third sprint series win this season. Second place went to Amy Briscoe; another youth competitor in 1:11:07, following in third was Kim Gusdal in 1:12:32.

On the male side, Rob Vallis, won his second sprint race in a time of 1:01:52  This was the fastest time in the Sprint Category. Second place went to junior athlete, Rob Kazuk in 1:04:11. Brian Schroeder took third place in 1:04:39.

In the duathlon event (5km run / 40km cycle / 10km run). The top placing male winning his 2nd duathlon this year was Cameron Towle in 2:08:17. Following in second was David Gerrad in 2:17:59. Third place went to Mark Tinant in 2:51:39.
