June 18, 2001 --- St Malo Triathlon Weekend


Triathlon Manitoba is pleased to announce the upcoming weekend full of triathlon events in St Malo Provincial Park (60km south of Winnipeg on Hwy 59) hosted by the Tribalistic Triathlon Team.

On Saturday June 23, 2001 a Kids of Steel race is being staged for children ages 8 –16 years. The junior participants (8-11) will swim 100m, cycle 5km and run 1km. The senior participants (12-16) will double those distances. On-site registration takes place from 10-11am at the beach with the race beginning at noon.

Starting shortly after the kids, is a new feature for the weekend, the Tri-a-Tri Triathlon event, featuring a 300m swim, 10km cycle, and 3 km run. This event is excellent for first time triathletes or youths looking for a challenge. Race starts at 12:30p.m.

On Sunday June 24th, the 6th Annual Triathlon de St Malo, is scheduled to start at 9:00am.

This race features a variety of events to choose from:

-The Standard Distance triathlon consists of a 1500m swim, 40km bike, and 10km run. This distance will see the 2000 race winners Patrick Peacock and Edie Fisher racing to defend their titles. This distance is a qualifier for the Provincial team that will travel to Drummondville, Quebec on June 30/July 1st to compete at the 2001 Canadian Triathlon Championships.
-The Sprint Distance features a 750 m swim, 20km bike and 5km run.
-The second new event added this year is the duathlon, consisting of a 5km run, 40km cycle, 10km run.
-Participants can also choose between two Open Water Swims of 750m or 1500m
