June 4, 2001 --- Transcona Kids of Steel
Triathlon
Manitoba is pleased to announce the success of the Transcona Kids of Steel event held
yesterday by the Triple Threat Triathlon Team.
There were
122 participants in the event. The winner in
the Junior Girl category (100m swim, 5km bike, 1km run) was Jacqueline Coles with a time
of 17:43. The Junior Boy who placed first was
Keith Mitchell in 18:34. In the Senior
Category (200m swim, 10km bike, 2km run) the first place girl was Teresa Samek in 33:11,
and the first place boy was Lennon Harder with a time of 29:45.
This race also served as the Manitoba Schools Triathlon Championship for Early and Middle
Years. The Early years banner went to Ecole
St Avila, with 134 points. Nordale School,
the defending school, came in second with 109 points, and Joseph Teres School placed third
with 88 points.
In the
Middle years category, River Heights School claimed the banner with 66 points. Following in second was Robert Andrews School and
Munroe Junior High placed third. In total
there were 29 elementary schools represented and 8 middle years schools.
Points were
awarded in each category based on the order of finish.
The next
race on the Kids of Steel calendar is in St Malo on June 23rd hosted by the
Tribalistic Triathlon Team. For more
