May 16, 2001 --- Prestige Duathlon #2


Triathlon Manitoba is pleased to announce the results of the second race of the 2001 Race Season, which despite the afternoon weather had an excellent turnout of 96 participants.  Race Number Two in the Prestige Duathlon Series which took place on Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at Birds Hill Park featured a 2k run / 13k bike / 2k run or a 4k run/ 24k bike/ 4k run, as well as a Kids of Steel distance. 

The overall male winner for the short distance event was Darcey Harder of the Tribalistic Team, in 36:51. The winner of last week’s Prestige Duathlon #1 Ian Main, of the Sub2 Triathlon Club, captured second in 38:00.  Following closely behind in third place was Douglas Scott in 38:06. 

The overall female winner for the short distance was youth athlete Carolyn Wernham in 45:08.  On her heels a second later to take second place was another youth athlete, Teresa Samek in 45:09. Third place went to a junior athlete Bethany Olson (Pinawa), from the Pinnacle Triathlon Club in 46:43.

The overall male winner of the long distance event was Dan Morwood (Brandon) of the Sub 2 triathlon club in 1:05:17.  Second place went to Allan Scott in 1:05:54; following in third was Dave Lipchen from the Tribalistic Triathlon Team in 1:07:26.

The overall female winner of the long distance event was Edie Fisher (Kenora) of the Tribalistic Team in 1:15:38.  Amy Briscoe, a youth participant with the Triple Threat Club followed in second place in 1:17:17. Third place went to Jenny Ayers of the Tribalistic Team in 1:18:42.

The last race in the Prestige Series takes place next Tuesday, May 22nd.  This race will be short course only, a 2k run / 13k bike / 2k run.  The race start at 6:30 with on-site registration taking place starting at 5:15pm in the East Beach.
