May 26, 2001 --- Brandon Kids of Steel
Triathlon Manitoba and Hot 101 FM in Brandon are pleased to announce
the success of the Brandon Triathlon, the first race in the 2001 Kids of Steel Series,
which took place under todays sunny skies.
Thirty-eight kids and youth participated in the fun and well
organized event hosted by the Westman Triumphs Triathlon Club.
The event featured two distances: the junior distance, which
consisted of a 100m swim, 5km cycle, and 1km run and a senior distance with a 200m swim,
10km cycle, and 2km run.
The overall winner in the junior girls category was Amanda Gray from
Brandon in 19:38. On the junior boys side
Brandon resident Jeremy Ramsey won in 20:55.
In the senior girls category, Karrie Gerow of Souris placed first
overall in 44:03, while Lennon Harder of Winnipeg captured first in the senior boys
category in 32:12.

The next event on the Kids of Steel calendar takes place on Sunday June 3rd in Transcona. This event will serve as the Early and Middle Years School Championships. Registration opens at 7:00a.m. at the Transcona Kinsmen Pool and race starts at 8:00 a.m.
