August 13, 2002 --- Riding Mountain Triathlon
The seventeenth annual Riding Mountain Triathlon Weekend in Clear Lake,
Wasagaming, Manitoba will take place on Saturday August 17 and Sunday August 18, 2002.
The weekend starts on Saturday with the Olympic distance (1500m swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run) and Sprint distance (750m swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run). The
course is one of the most challenging and scenic in Manitoba. The race starts at 9:00 a.m. at the Main Beach. This race is also the last event in
Triathlon Manitoba's Grand Prix Series and Sprint Series where points are awarded throughout the season to determine Provincial winners.
The excitement continues on Sunday August 18th, with the Kids of Steel and Adult
Tri-a-Tri Triathlons. The distances are as follows:
8 to 11 years 100m swim, 5km cycle, 1km run
12 to16 short 200m swim, 10km cycle, 2km run
12 to16 long 300m swim, 15km cycle, 3km run
Adult Tri-a-tri 300m swim, 15km cycle, 3km run
This is a fun and popular event in the series for kids between the ages of 8 through to 16 years. Race day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with the
race starting at 9:00 a.m.
The race is also the 2002 Manitoba Saskatchewan Youth Regional championships. Points are awarded to athletes
14 to15 and 16 years old on Saturday, and ages 12 to13 years old completing the "long" distance on Sunday.
