July 29, 2002 --- Lac du Bonnet Triathlon Results
One hundred and thirty two volunteers from the Lac Du Bonnet area helped make the Lac Du Bonnet Triathlon a success. The event, which took place on
Sunday July 28th, saw 210 athletes compete in the various events.
In the Olympic Distance race (1500m swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run), Janet Findlay of Kenora finished first in a time of 2:19:55. Right on her heels
was Erica Stechesen with a time of 2:20:35. Carina Kirk of the Tribalistic Triathlon Team finished third in 2:35:51.
On the men's side, Patrick Peacock of Tribalistic finished first overall with a time of 2:02:11. In second was Jeff Morier also from Tribalistic in
2:03:54. Patrick and Jeff train with the Manitoba National Triathlon Centre (MNTC). In third was Allan Scott with a time of 2:05:05.
In the Sprint Distance (750m swim, 20 km bike, 5km run) youth athlete Erin Braun came in first with a time of 1:10:51. Amy Briscoe followed her closely
with a time of 1:11:00. Third was Teresa Samek with a time of 1:16:51. All three of these youth girls are members of the Triple Threat Triathlon Club
and currently train with the MNTC.
Three more Triple Threat/MNTC athletes finished on top of the men's side. Jacques Marcoux finished first in 1:06:44. Josh Markham was second with a
time of 1:08:20. In third was John Wernham with a time of 1:10:59.
In the Duathlon, (5 km run, 40 km bike, 10 km run) Coreena Lloyd finished first in 2:54:18. Second was Lorelei Van
Belleghem in 2:55:34 and Tamara Bodi finished third with a time of 3:16:10.
Mike Klatt, of Triple Threat, won the men's duathlon in 2:17:09. Second was Kevin Miller, also of Triple Threat, in 2:23:09. Kirk Cook finished third
with a time of 2:35:51.
A new event this year was the Corporate Relay (750m swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run). Five teams representing four different companies participated. The
winning team was Assante One in a time of 1:14:53.
The final event of the day was a Tri-A-Tri (300m swim, 10 km bike, 2.5 km run) This distance is perfect for people new to or
returning to triathlon. Danielle Trudel won the women's side with a time of 42:22. Youth athlete
Kyle Crowston from Brandon, won the Men's side in 40:39.
