July 8, 2002 --- Morden Triathlon Weekend
The
next upcoming event on the Triathlon Manitoba calendar is a weekend of
triathlons in Morden. The 22nd
Annual Morden International Triathlon will take place on Saturday July 13th,
followed by the Kids Of Steel and Tri-A-Tri on Sunday.
This is one of Canada's longest running triathlons and features a variety
of distances that provide a challenge for all ages and abilities.
Saturday
Events:
The
Half Ironman features a 1.9 km swim, 90km bike, followed by a 21.1 km run.
This is a qualifier for Ironman Canada and features a $2000 prize purse
for the overall male and female winners of the Half Ironman Distance.
These competitors will be starting the swim at 7:00 a.m.
The
second distance of the day is the Foilman race, which consists of a 950 m swim,
30km bike, and 7.2km run. This part
of the race gets under way at 9:30 a.m. at the Colert Beach in Morden. Also
starting at 9:30 is the Duathlon. This event consists of a 3.6 km run, 30 km
bike and 7.2 km run.
Sunday
Events:
The
Kids of Steel and Tri-A-Tri will continue the weekend of events.
This is the 5th race in the 2002 Kids of Steel Series.
Kids Of Steel is open to children between the ages of 8-16. The Kids Of
Steel distances are as follows:
8 to11 years
100m swim, 5km cycle, 1km run
12 to16
short
200m swim, 10km cycle, 2km run
12 to16
long
300m swim, 15km cycle, 3km run
The
Tri-a-Tri is a great event for anyone interested in trying the sport for the
first time. It features a 300m swim, 15km bike and 3km run. The Tri-A-Tri is
open to anyone age 17 and up.
Sunday
events registration runs from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM with the Kids Of steel race
starting at 9:00 AM and the Tri-a-Tri at 9:45 AM.
