July 8, 2002 --- Pinawa Triathlon Results
Triathlon Manitoba is pleased to announce the success of the weekend of
triathlon events in Pinawa. The weekend started with a Kids Of Steel race for ages 8 to 16, which took place on Saturday July 6th, 2002. On Sunday
July 7th the Pinnacle Triathlon Team hosted the Pinawa Free Spirit Triathlon and
Duathlon.
The Kids of Steel event on Saturday had 73 participants, which is a record number for the Pinawa race. The winner in the Girls 8
to11 category (100m swim, 5km bike, 1km run) was Jacqueline Coles with a time of 19:54. Joshua
Drad placed first in the Boys 8 to11 category with a time of 18:36. In the Girls
12 to16 "Short" Category (200m swim, 10km bike, 2km run) the first place girl was Serena Bredin in 38:47, and
first place in the 12 to16 "Short" boys category was Brett Plouffe with a time of 36:49. The final two
categories of the day, Girls 12 to16 "Long" (300m swim, 15km bike, 3 km run) and Boys
12 to16 "Long", were won by Samantha Wauer in 50:53 and Derek Larson in 46:20.
On Sunday 149 participants took part in the day's events. Overall Female winners of the Standard Distance (1500m swim, 40k bike, 10k run) were as
follows: in first place was Cherrie Fournier of the Tribalistic Triathlon Club in 2:25:11; Stacy
Racher captured second place in 2:33:16. Third place went to Melanie Leclair of Tribalistic in 2:36:18.
On the men's side the Overall Male winner in the Standard Distance was Jeff Morier of the Tribalistic Triathlon Club with the fastest time of the day in
2:01:20. Following in second was Philippe Chabot of the Triple Threat Triathlon Club in 2:06:19. Third place went to Myles
Tycholis in 2:09:16.
In the Sprint Distance category (750 m swim / 20k bike / 5k run) the first women across the line was youth athlete Erin
Braun in 1:08:56. Second place went to Amy Briscoe; another youth competitor in 1:09:23, following in third
was youth athlete Jill Dobrinsky in 1:10:27. All three of these girls are members of the Triple Threat Triathlon Club.
On the male side, Kevin Breiter, of the Triple Threat Triathlon Club, had the fastest time of the day with his time of 58:28. Second placed went to Allan
Scott in 1:01:06. Jacques Marcoux, also of Triple Threat, took third place in 1:03:51. All three of these athletes currently train with the Manitoba
National Training Center.
In the duathlon event (10km run / 40km cycle / 5km run), the top placing male was Mike Klatt of the Triple Threat
Triathlon Club in 2:14:57. Following in second was Kevin Miller, also of the Triple Threat Triathlon
Club, in 2:21:31. Third place went to Laurent Lacroix in 2:27:27
