June 18, 2002 --- St Malo Multisport Weekend
The Tribalistic Triathlon Team is hosting a weekend full of triathlon events
in St Malo Provincial Park on June 22 & 23, 2002. The St Malo Multisport Weekend offers events and distances for kids, novices and veteran
triathletes.
On Saturday, the Kids of Steel race is being staged for children ages 8 to16 years. The participants ages
8 to11 will swim 100m, cycle 5km and run 1km. The older participants ages 12
to16 will have a choice of completing either double or triple that distance. On-site registration takes place from
8:30-9:30 AM at the beach, with the race beginning at 10 AM.
Starting shortly after the youths will be a Tri-a-Tri Triathlon event, featuring a 300m swim, 15km cycle, and 3 km run. This
event is excellent for first time triathletes or family members of the kids who want to get
involved. Race starts at 10:30 AM.
On Sunday June 23rd, the adult events are scheduled to start at 9:00 AM. Registration will still be accepted until
8 AM race day.
This race features a variety of events to choose from:
· The Olympic Distance triathlon consists of a 1500m swim, 40km bike, and 10km run. This distance will see the 2001 race winners Patrick Peacock and
Edie Fisher racing to defend their titles. This distance is a qualifier for the Provincial team that will travel to Edmonton, Alberta on July 14th to
compete at the 2002 Canadian Triathlon Championships. This event is race
number 2 in Triathlon Manitoba's Grand Prix series.
· The Sprint Distance features a 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run, and is part of the Sprint Series. For the junior
athletes, this event is one of the qualifiers for the 2002 Canadian Junior Triathlon Championships to be
held in Wasaga Beach, Ontario August 24th.
· An Olympic distance duathlon, consisting of a 5km run, 40km cycle, 10km run or a Sprint distance duathlon of 2.5km run, 20km cycle, and 5km run are
also options.
· Participants can also choose between two Open Water Swims of 750m or 1500m
