May 23, 2002 --- 2002 Kids of Steel Triathlon Series Begins in Brandon


The first race in the 2002 Kids of Steel Triathlon Series is set to take place in Brandon, Manitoba on Sunday June 2nd.

The Triumphs Triathlon Club in Brandon will host this fun, safe and non-competitive event for kids, which helps them develop skills in three different sports. The distances are:

Ages 8-11 100m swim, 5km bike, 1km run
12-16 short distance 200m swim, 10km bike, 2km run
12-16 long distance 300m swim, 15km bike, 3km run

The event will also have a Tri-a-tri, which is a shorter triathlon aimed at adults. The distance is a 300m swim, 15km bike, and 3km run. . The Tri-a-tri distance is becoming an increasingly popular way for parents and other newcomers to give the sport a try.

The event promotes the value of participation, lifestyle and lifelong fitness and family.

Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. On-site registration at the Brandon Sportsplex begins at 8:00a.m, with the race starting at 9:00 a.m.

The 2002 Kids of Steel Series consists of 8 races that take place across the province starting with this first race in Brandon thru to September at Birds Hill Park. The series of regional races is geared towards children between the ages of 8 and 16. Relay teams are allowed and encouraged.
