September 11, 2002 --- Canadian Duathlon Championships results
The 2002 Canadian Duathlon Championships took place in downtown Calgary,
Alberta on Sunday September 8th.
Amy Briscoe tied for first place in the Junior Sprint race, which consisted of a 5km run, 20km cycle and another 2.5km run, in
a race to the finish line with Martina Feldmann of Quesnel, BC. The two competitors completed the
event in 1:18:54. Amy did qualify for Worlds, but opted to decline the spot. This is the 2nd consecutive year that Amy has placed first in the
Junior Elite Girls category at Duathlon Nationals.
New to the sport this season, teammate, Jenna Wilson placed fourth in 1:21:28. Jenna accepted a spot and will be traveling to Alpharetta,
Georgia, USA on October 19/20, 2002 for the ITU World Duathlon Championships.
Manitoba had a strong representation of junior girls, and placing right behind
Jenna, was Teresa Samek in 5th with a time of 1:22:29. Erin Braun was right on Teresa's heels, finishing 6th in 1:22:36. Carolyn Wernham
placed 10th in 1:27:25.
On the junior men's side, Jacques Marcoux finished fourth in 1:13:34 and John Wernham was 7th in 1:19:33.
All of the juniors train at the Manitoba National Triathlon Centre (MNTC).
In the age group categories, Jim Munro won the Men's 55-59 category in 2:18:25. Jenny Ayers captured second place in the women's 40-44 event in
2:27:30. Both Jim and Jenny are members of the Tribalistic Triathlon Team.
