August 13, 2003 --- Riding Mountain Triathlon weekend


The final event in the Triathlon Manitoba Grand Prix and Sprint Series is the Riding Mountain Triathlon, which is part of a weekend of triathlon events on August 16th & 17th in the beautiful Riding Mountain National Park. This event is one of the most scenic and challenging in Manitoba.  

Saturday Events:

The first three events of the weekend take place on Saturday and consist of an Olympic Distance Triathlon (1500m swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run), a Sprint Distance Triathlon (750m swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run), and new this year, a Duathlon (5 km run, 40 km bike, 10 km run). Racing starts at 9:00 a.m. 

Sunday Events:

The Kids of Steel and Try-A-Tri will continue the weekend of events. Also taking place on Sunday is the Manitoba / Saskatchewan Youth Regional Triathlon Championships. This race will see the athletes racing in the 12&13 long and the 14&15 long distances gather points for their province.

Kids Of Steel is open to children between the ages of 8 to15. The Kids Of Steel distances are as follows:

            8 to 11 years                            100m swim, 5km cycle, 1km run 
           
12&13 short                             200m swim, 10km cycle, 2km run 

           
12&13 long, 14&15 short         300m swim, 15km cycle, 3km run
           
14&15 long                              500m swim, 15km cycle, 4 km run                       

The Try-a-Tri is a great event for anyone interested in trying the sport for the first time. It features a 300m swim, 15km bike and 3km run. The Try-A-Tri is open to anyone age 16 and up. 

Sunday events registration runs from 8:00 to 9:00 with the race starting at 9:30.
