July 29, 2003 --- Lac du Bonnet Triathlon results


A large number of volunteers from the Lac du Bonnet area helped make the Lac du Bonnet Triathlon a success. The event, which took place on Sunday July 27th, saw 219 athletes compete in the various events. 

In the Olympic Distance race (1500m swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run), Edie Fisher of Kenora finished first in a time of 2:17:41. Second was Melanie Leclair of the Tribalistic Triathlon Team with a time of 2:28:59. Cherrie Fournier, also of Tribalistic, finished third in 2:31:06. 

On the men’s side, Patrick Peacock of Tribalistic finished first overall with a time of 2:01:21. In second was Brian Schroeder also from Tribalistic in 2:18:08. In third was David Matiece with a time of 2:18:28. 

In the Sprint Distance (750m swim, 20 km bike, 5km run) Charmaine Shannon came in first with a time of 1:13:52. Jill Dobrinsky followed her with a time of 1:14:53. Third was Bethany Pechey with a time of 1:18:18. 

On the men’s side. Jeff Morier finished first in 1:01:53. James Clements was second with a time of 1:10:41. In third was Jim Sandor with a time of 1:11:16 

In the Olympic Duathlon, (5 km run, 40 km bike, 10 km run) Christel Leclair finished first in 2:35:59. Second was Jackie Beckta in 2:48:25 and Jane MacMillan finished third with a time of 2:50:20. 

Dale Kirk, of Tribalistic, won the men’s Olympic Duathlon in 2:03:36. Second was Ty Schmidt in 2:09:41. Mathew Seftel finished third with a time of 2:16:17. 

New this year a Sprint Duathlon (2.5 km run, 20 km bike, 5 km run) was also held. Erin Briscoe finished first in 1:21:39. Second was Bobbie Pelland in 1:30:32 and Shelagh Loewen finished third with a time of 1:50:22. 

On the Sprint Duathlon men’s side, Randy Bolton, of Tribalistic, finished first in 1:11:54. Second was Brad Loewen in 1:18:31 and Nick Shepel finished third in 1:31:04. 

This year the Corporate Relay event (750m swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run) saw five teams representing four different companies participating. The winning team was Assante One in a time of 1:14:10. 

The final event of the day was a Try-A-Tri (300m swim, 10 km bike, 2.5 km run) This distance is perfect for people new to, or retuning to, triathlon. Youth athlete Samantha Wauer won the women’s side with a time of 41:52. John Whiting, won the Men’s side in 43:30.
