June 5, 2003 --- Triple Threat Triathlon & Duathlon weekend
The Triple Threat Triathlon Club is hosting triathlon events this coming
weekend at Birds Hill Provincial Park. All
the action takes place in the East Beach area of the park.
Saturday June 7th is the second event in the 2003 Kids of
Steel Series and will be serving as the Manitoba Schools Triathlon Championships
race. Banners will be given to the
top Early and Middle Years Schools who earn the most race points.
The defending champion from 2002 is Shamrock School in both categories.
A Try-a-Tri event for adults will also be offered.
This event is open to kids ages 8 and up. Distances are as follows:
8-11 years
100m swim, 5km cycle, 1km run
12-13 short
200m swim, 10km cycle, 2km run
12 & 13 long & 14& 15 short
300m swim, 15km cycle, 3km run
14 & 15 long
500m swim, 15km cycle, 4km run
Adult Try-a-Tri (16+)
300m swim, 15km cycle, 3km run
Registration is accepted onsite from 7:30 to 8:30 AM with the race
beginning at 9:00 AM.
The following day, Sunday June 8th, the excitement continues
as the 1st races in the Manitoba Grand Prix Series and Sprint Series
kick off. Manitoba’s top
triathletes will be trying to qualify for Triathlon Manitoba Junior and High
Performance Provincials Teams.
The race distances for Sunday’s events are as follows:
Sprint Distance Triathlon: 750m swim / 20km
cycle / 5km run
Olympic Distance Triathlon: 1500m swim / 40km cycle / 10km run
Duathlon: 5km run / 40km cycle / 10km run
The Olympic and Duathlon events begin at 8:00 AM, with the Sprint
competitors beginning at 9:00 AM. Access
to and from the East Beach parking lot will be closed starting at 8:00 AM until
approximately 10:30 AM, so spectators should park in the West Beach parking lot.
