May 7, 2003 --- Prestige Duathlon #1 results


Erica Stechesen and Allan Scott win Prestige Duathlon # 1

In the first event of the season, Erica Stechesen and Allan Scott won the long distance category of Prestige Duathlon # 1 last night at Birds Hill Park. The long duathlon featured a 4k run, 24.4k bike, finishing with another 4k run. It was a great season opener event with a turnout of 125 enthusiastic participants.   

The overall male winner for the short distance event, which consisted of a 2k run, 13.3k bike, and 2k run was Kevin Breiter in 36:45.  Kevin trains with the Manitoba National Triathlon Centre (MNTC) and is a member of the Triple Threat Triathlon Team.  Capturing second place in 39:04 was Steve Scoles. Following in third was Douglas Scott in 39:15.

The overall female winner for the short distance was the youngest competitor Samantha Wauer, in a time of 45:15.  Following closely in second was Bethany Pechey of the Tribalistic Team in 45:20.  Third place went to Donna Kaye in 46:55. 

In the long distance event, where the top overall male and female series winner and top overall male and female junior will qualify for funding to Duathlon Nationals, the men’s event got started off with Patrick Peacock and Allan Scott coming off the first run just a second apart.  Allan managed to take lead on the bike and pushed to gain time to win the event in 1:05:36.  Patrick, who is training with the MNTC and a member of Tribalistic, finished in 1:07:22.   Following in third was Jacques Marcus with the MNTC in 1:09:08.  

The overall female winners of the long distance event all train with the MNTC, Erica won the event in 1:15:39. Second place went to junior athlete, Erin Braun a Triple Threat member in 1:19:36.  Charmaine Shannon, who’s here training from Namibia, was third in 1:19:57.    

The next race on the Tuesday night schedule is Prestige Duathlon #2 taking place next Tuesday May 13th. Race starts at 6:30 PM with on-site registration taking place starting at 5:15 PM in the East Beach parking lot at Birds Hill Park.
