August 3, 2004 --- Essex Road Multi-Sport day results
The Kenora Borealis Triathlon Team hosted a fun day of
multi-sport events this past weekend on Essex road, just north of Kenora. The
multi-sport racing offered an event for everyone in the family. The bike portion
for all the events took place on a gravel road, which required mountain bikes.
The day started with a Kids Of Steel® race for ages 8 to
15, a 17 km Go Like a Goat run race, a mountain bike race, and a
Try-a-Tri.
In the Go Like a Goat 17 km gravel road run, Kelly
Pearson finished first in a time of 1:38:53, Larry Eaton won the men’s side in
a time of 1:20:00. In the 17 km female sport mountain bike Kimberly Macdonald
came in with a time of 43:11. Darren Marcine won the 17 km male sport mountain
bike in 39:25. In the Try-a-Tri distance (300 m swim, 10 km bike, 3 km run)
Lorelei Van Bellegham finished first in 51:42.
In the afternoon, 45 participants completed the various
events. Overall Female winners of the Sprint Distance Triathlon (750 m swim, 17
km bike, 5 km run) were as follows: in first place was Kimberly Macdonald of the
Tribalistic Club in 1:17:36; Lynne Laporte captured second place in 1:18:32.
Third place went to Simone Roulston of Kenora in 1:26:49.
On the men's side the Overall Male winner in the Sprint
Distance Triathlon was Jared Spier of the Tribalistic Club in 1:01:43.
Following in second was Allan Scott of Triathlon Manitoba in 1:05:06.
Third place went to Philippe Chabot, of the Triple Threat Triathlon Club in
1:09:29.
In the Sprint Duathlon category (2.5 km run, 17 km mountain
bike, 5 km run) Kenora local Barb Griffith claimed first place in 1:24:46. Kevin
Blake was the top male finisher in 1:18:53.
In the aquathon (750 m swim, 17 km mountain bike, 750 m
swim) Gwen Compton of Kenora won the women’s side in 1:21:08. Chris
Livingstone of Tribalistic won the men’s side in 57:55.
