October 1, 2004 --- Five Manitobans off to Duathlon Nationals in Quebec City
The 2004 Canadian Duathlon Championships will be taking place this
coming Saturday, October 2, in Quebec City.
The five athletes representing Manitoba are:
Amy Briscoe
Junior female
Erin Braun
Junior female
Jenna Wilson
Junior female
Jacques Marcoux
U 23 Male
Jared Spier
Male 25-29
Jenna heads into the race as the 2003 National Junior Champion, while
Jacques, who won the Junior event in 2003, moves up into the U 23 category.
Both Jenna and Jacques were on the 2003 National Duathlon team that
competed at the World Duathlon Championships in 2003 based on their wins at the
Duathlon Championships last year. Amy
and Erin represented Canada in May 2004 on the National Junior team at the 2004
World Triathlon Championships. All
four of these Manitoba National Triathlon Centre (MNTC) athletes have an
excellent chance for podium preferences this weekend.
Jared Spier (Tribalistic club), who was the overall male winner of Manitoba’s
Prestige Duathlon series, which was the qualifier to attend Duathlon Nationals,
will be racing in the 25-29 category event.
The race features an Olympic distance duathlon, consisting of a 10km
run, 40km bike, and 5km run for participants in the under 23 and age group
categories. Juniors compete in a
sprint distance event, featuring a 5km run, 20km bike, and 2.5km run.
The under 23 and Junior categories are draft legal races.
