July 28, 2005 --- Canadian Junior Triathlon Championships
On
Saturday July 30th, Manitoba will see seven of its most promising
triathletes compete at the Canadian Junior Triathlon Championships in Caledon,
Ontario. This event is also the 4th race in the 5 Junior National
& U23 Development Series races.
Currently
with 3 of 5 series races already complete, Manitoba’s Amy Briscoe leads the
Junior Female Series with 225 points. MNTC teammates Jill Dobrinsky, Jenna
Wilson, and Teresa Samek are all sitting in the top 17 for this division. All of
these athletes will race Junior Nationals, which is a sprint distance (750m
swim, 20 k bike, 5 k run) drafting event.
In
the Junior Male division Manitoba’s Willie Bell is currently sitting in 7th,
followed closely by Blair Peters in 9th.
For
the juniors, the championships results & series rankings for the first 4
events will determine spots on the Canadian Junior team heading to Worlds in
Japan this September.
Teammate
Erin Braun is currently topping the Under 23 division with170 points. She will
be racing the elite/U23 event at the Olympic distance (1500m swim, 40k bike, 10k
run) on Saturday.
In
the age group Olympic distance event Jeff Morier & Cherrie Fournier will be
racing. Athletes will be competing for qualifying spots for the Age Group World
Championships in Hawaii this October.
