June 22, 2005 --- 1st Triathlon Weekend Race Results


The Triple Threat Triathlon weekend was held on June 11th and 12th at Birds Hill Provincial Park, hosted by the Triple Threat Team. The weekend marked the beginning of another busy Triathlon season. 

The beautiful weather on Saturday for the Kids of Steel® event assisted in bringing out the youth athletes.  We had a record-breaking number of Kids of Steel® participants with 174 youths taking part in the successful start to the season.    

Sunday, despite the turn in weather, 113 athletes participated in the day’s events.

Edie Fisher, Kenora Borelias club, was the overall winner in the Women’s Olympic distance event (1500swim, 40km cycle, 10 km run) with a time of 2:23:28. Second place went to Jenny Ayers and third place went to Melanie Leclair, both of the Tribalistic club. 

In the Men’s Olympic distance event, the Tribalistic club swept the top three places. First place went to Jeff Morier, Tribalistic, with a time of 2:07:27.   Second went to teammate Patrick Peacock with a time of 2:10:24. Finishing closely in third was Jared Spier with a time of 2:10:47. 

In the sprint distance category (750m Swim, 21.5 km bike/ 5km run) top place went to Teresa Samek, MNTC, with a time of 1:18:21.  Followed by Lynne Laporte with a time of 1:18:49 and just seconds behind her Jill Dobrinsky, MNTC, with a time of 1:18:59.  

Top honors in the men’s sprint went to Brent Borbridge with a time of 1:14:44, followed by Jim Sandors in second and Evan Nitschmann, from Tri Factor club, at 1:17:30. 

In the Long Duathlon distance (5km run/40km bike/10km run) top overall finishers were Heather Strachan, and Miles Morgan. The Sprint Duathlon (2.5km run/20km cycle/5km run) Erin White took first with a time of 1:25:22 in the female category, and Darren Scherbain in the male category with a time of 1:27:29. 

The next scheduled event on the Triathlon Manitoba calendar, is a weekend of races in St. Malo on June 25th and 26th. The weekend has events for everyone from Kids of Steel, to novice athletes with a shorter Try-a-Tri distance, as well as Sprint, Olympic, Duathlon, and relay categories.
