This weekend includes an impressive start list, including many of Canada’s top Junior and U23 athletes. They are preparing to compete in the first event of the National Junior & U23 Development series, which features five races. This is the second year for the series, with revisions made to enhance competition, including: adding a U23 category, World’s selection criteria, and prize money.  “We anticipated more participation in the series this year” says Norbert Hollman, Series Director, “but the response for the first event has far exceeded our expectations. With over 50 confirmed entries, including current and former national junior champions, our developing athletes will gain valuable race experience right in Canada that will prepare them for future elite and international competition.”

Junior athletes will race for series points used for partial selection of the World Championship team, while U23 athletes will race for event prize money.

Provincially, watch for Jeff Morier and Edie Fisher to try and defend their 2004 overall winner titles in the Olympic distance.  The Olympic distance event is serving as a qualifier for the Manitoba age group team which will head out to Nationals in Kelowna, BC this August.
