August 21, 2006 --- Successful Weekend in Riding Mountain
Warm
weather and a tough course greeted over 229 participants at the 21st
Annual Riding Mountain Triathlon. Favored
among athletes for its tough course conditions, the race was a success, and
featured both a Triathlon and a Duathlon with Olympic and Sprint distances.
The overall winners were Erica Stechesen and Patrick Peacock.
In
the Female Olympic distance (1500m swim, 40k hilly bike, 10k hilly run), Erica
Stechesen finished 1st with an overall time of 2:24:07.
Finishing in 2nd was Maureen Van Schepdael with a time of
2:30:25. Rounding off the podium in 3rd place was Cherrie
Fournier in a time of 2:32:58.
In
the Male Olympic distance, Tribalistic Head Coach Patrick Peacock finished 1st
overall with a time of 2:08:00. In
2nd place was Allan Scott with a time of 2:09:23.
Coming up in 3rd place was Tribalistic’s Jared Spier with a
time of 2:10:41.
In
the Female Sprint distance (750m swim, 20k hilly bike, 5k hilly run) Rachel
Tessier of Triple Threat finished 1st with a time of 1:19:57.
Kate Okany, also of Triple Threat finished 2nd with a time of
1:21:19. Rounding off the Female
Sprint category was Stevie Moore finishing in 3rd with a time of
1:22:49.
In
the Male Sprint category, Shaun Humphries finished 1st with a time of
1:12:14. Placing 2nd was
Tribalistic’s Francois Legoupil with a time of 1:13:40.
In 3rd place was Rod Sveistrup with a time of 1:14:26.
In
the Olympic Duathlon category (5k hilly run, 40k hilly bike, 10k hilly run) the
overall Female winner was Christel Leclair with a time of 2:46:00.
In 2nd place was Holly Pizzey with a time of 2:47:58.
Placing 3rd was Suzanne Gauthier in a time of 2:54:06.
In
the Male Olympic Duathlon category, Robert Hydomako finished 1st with
a time of 2:31:12. Finishing 2nd was John Kelleher in a time of 2:41:12.
Rounding of the podium was John Weisflock with a time of 2:51:54.
In
the Sprint Duathlon category (2.5k hilly run, 20k hilly bike, and 5k hilly run)
the overall Female winner was Brogan Kiss with a time of 1:24:01.
Finishing in 2nd place was Anita Miller with a time of
1:29:45. Placing 3rd was
Wendy Friesen with a time of 1:32:14.
In
the Male Sprint Duathlon, Hans Epp was the overall winner finishing with a time
of 1:10:17. Placing 2nd
with a time of 1:14:00 was Joel Martin. Not
too far behind in 3rd place was Larry Klassen with a time of 1:14:16.
