July 10, 2006 --- Free Spirit event a success in Pinawa


Race number three of the Manitoba Grand Prix Series took place in Pinawa, this past weekend.  One hundred and twenty-nine athletes participated in the Free Spirit triathlon and duathlon at the Pinawa Marina.  Athletes participated in an Olympic or Sprint race distance.  The overall race winners were Erin Braun of the MNTC, and Patrick Peacock of the Tribalistic Triathlon team. 

In the Women’s Olympic distance, Erin Braun, scorched the 1500 m swim, 40 Km bike, and 10 Km run.  She finished 1st in a time of 2:15:36.  Finishing in 2nd behind Braun is Edie Fisher of Kenora in a time of 2:19:23.  Rounding off the Olympic distance podium is Cherrie Fournier of the Tribalistic Triathlon team in a time of 2:27:38. 

Patrick Peacock dominated the Men’s Olympic distance in a time of 2:05:46.  Behind him, finishing in 2nd place was Chris Graham of the Tribalistic Triathlon team with a time of 2:09:23.  Finishing up in 3rd was Triple Threat’s Philippe Chabot in a time of 2:11:50. 

In the female Sprint distance, Lynne Laporte of Tribalistic won the race in a time of 1:11:29.  Finishing in 2nd place was Kimberly Macdonald of Triple Threat in a time of 1:15:52.  Rounding off the female sprint podium in 3rd, was Dayna Hyde of the Tribalistic Triathlon team finishing in a time of 1:19:33. 

The MNTC’s Jacques Marcoux won the Male Sprint distance in a time of 1:05:46.  He was followed by Mark Lehman who finished 2nd with a time of 1:09:05.  Finishing in 3rd place was Rod Sveistrup in a time of 1:09:51. 

The Overall Duathlon (5 Km run, 40 Km bike, and 10 Km run) was won by Dan Morwood of Kenora with a time of 1:56:57. 

The next Triathlon event will take place in Morden, Manitoba with the ½ Ironman event taking place on Saturday, July 15th and a Kids of Steel event on Sunday, July 16th.
