July 25, 2006 --- Lac du Bonnet Triathlon a Success!


Race number four of the Manitoba Grand Prix Series took place in Lac du Bonnet, this past weekend.  One hundred and eighty-seven athletes participated in the triathlon and duathlon under sunny skies.  Athletes participated in an Olympic or Sprint race distance.  The overall race winners were Maureen Van Schepdael, of the Tri-Force Triathlon Team, and Patrick Peacock, of the Tribalistic Triathlon Team. 

In the Women’s Olympic distance (1500 m swim, 40 Km bike, and 10 Km run) Van Schepdael finished 1st in a time of 2:27:51.  Finishing in 2nd was Lynne Laporte in a time of 2:29:26.  Rounding off the Olympic distance podium in third was Rennie Benedict with a time of 2:31:31. 

Patrick Peacock dominated the Men’s Olympic distance in a time of 2:03:25.  Behind him, finishing in 2nd place was Jeff Morier of the Tribalistic Triathlon team with a time of 2:04:54.  Finishing in 3rd was Allan Scott with a time of 2:06:20. 

In the Sprint distance, the overall winner was Kimberly Macdonald of the Triple Threat Triathlon team winning in a time of 1:16:07.  Finishing in 2nd place was Dayna Hyde of the Tribalistic Triathlon team with a time of 1:18:30.  Rounding off the female sprint podium was Kate Okany of the Triple Threat Triathlon team finishing in a time of 1:18:45. 

Jacques Marcoux of the MNTC won the Male Sprint distance in a time of 1:05:15.  He was followed by Mark Lehman who finished 2nd with a time of 1:09:18.  Finishing in 3rd place was Shaun Humphries with a time of 1:11:06. 

The Olympic Duathlon (5 Km run, 40 Km bike, and 10 Km run) was won by Laurent Lacroix in a time of 2:25:03.  In the female category, Laura Toews finished 1st with a time of 3:02:20. 

The next Triathlon is the Borealis Multisport Triathlon/Duathlon & Try-a-Tri in Kenora, Ontario on Sunday, July 30th.  The pre-registration deadline for the Borealis Multisport event is Wednesday, July 26th

In addition, Stonewall is hosting a Kids of Steel event and the Central Regional Youth Triathlon Championships on Sunday, July 30th.  The online and paper pre-registration deadline is Wednesday, July 26th

Lastly, the Flin Flon Triathlon also takes place on Sunday, July 30th.  This marks the first Northern event of the year for Triathlon Manitoba.
