June 30, 2006 --- Manitoba is sending 5 athletes to the 2006 National Triathlon Championships!


Manitoba is sending out a strong contingent of athletes to compete in the 2006 National Triathlon Championships, which take place this weekend in Brampton, Ontario on July 2nd

In the elite female U23 category, Erin Braun who trains with the MNTC, is heading out to perform against some intense competition.  Erin is coming out of a successful weekend in St. Malo where she placed 3rd in the female U23 category. 

In the female age group events, Cherrie Fournier (Tribalistic team) will be competing in the 35-39 category and Linda Markham in the female 50-54 age group category, racing the Olympic distance.  Earlier this year, Linda had a successful race in the Triple Threat Triathlon in Birds Hill Park, while Cherrie qualified for the team in St Malo.    

Two male racers will be representing Manitoba in the Olympic distances.  Jeff Morier  (Tribalistic team) will race in the Male 35-39 age group category and Doug Pickering (Westman Triumphs team) will race in the Male 44-49 age group category.  Both athletes had a successful weekend in St. Malo finishing 1st in both of their age group categories. 

Triathlon Manitoba officials Debb Brethauer and Kelly Mahoney will also be in Brampton officiating at the National championship.
