May 12, 2006 --- Triathlon Manitoba Sets New Participant Record!
The
second event of the season, took place on May 9th with event # 2 in
the Birds Hill Duathlon series.
One hundred and sixty-one athletes helped set a new participant record
for the series!
The
event offered athletes a choice of 2 distances.
The overall winners for the medium distance event (4k run, 24k bike, and
4k run) were Sarah-Anne Brault and Blair Peters.
Both athletes train with the Manitoba National Triathlon Centre (MNTC).
Sarah-Anne
Brault, finished first in a time of 1:13:06.
She was followed by Lynne Laporte of Tribalistic, in a time of 1:18:40.
Rounding off the podium in third place was Kimberley Macdonald of Triple
Threat Triathlon team in a time of 1:21:10.
Blair
Peters, won his first event of the year in a time of 1:03:59.
He was followed closely by Patrick Peacock of Tribalistic, in a time of
1:04:32. Finishing
in third was Jared Spier of Tribalistic in a time of 1:06:17.
The
short distance event consisted of a 2K run, 13K bike, and finished off with
another 2K run. The
overall winners of the short distance event were Jenny Ayers and Sam Duncum.
Jenny
Ayers, completed the race in a time of 42:19.
Not far behind, finishing in second was Richelle Ready with a time of
43:27. Rounding
off the women’s podium is Stevie Moore of MNTC in a time of 44:44.
In
the Men’s short distance category, Sam Dumcum of the MNTC won the distance in
a time of 36:56.
Close on his tail was Philippe Chabot of Triple Threat Triathlon team in
a time of 37:54.
Finishing in third was Darren Bittner in a time of 39:04.
The
next scheduled race is the third duathlon of the series, coming up on Tuesday,
May 16th at Birds Hill Park East Beach.
