May 20, 2006 --- Manitoba sends 5 athletes to Duathlon National Championships
Manitoba is sending out a strong contingent of
athletes to the Duathlon National Championships, which are taking place in
Hamilton, Ontario on Sunday, May. 21st, 2006.
Last year's 2005 junior men’s champion, Blair
Peters, will be returning to defend his title along with Willie Bell, who
finished 3rd last year in the same race. In the junior female category, Manitoba is sending Sarah-Anne
Brault to her first National Championships.
In the under-23 category, defending 2005 U-23
champion Erin Braun, will return to defend her national title.
In the men’s category, Jacques Marcoux is primed and ready to make an
impact in Hamilton.
Head Coach Gary Pallet and Lorene Peters are
attending as support staff for the Manitoba team. Amy Briscoe, 2005 champion in the junior female category,
will be unable to defend her title due to an injury.
However, she will be making the trip to Hamilton to aid and encourage the
rest of the athletes.
The
juniors and U-23s will be vying for 6 qualifying spots up for grabs in the 2006
World Championships, which take place on July 30th, in Corner Brook,
Newfoundland.
