May 4, 2006 --- Triathlon Manitoba's 25th Season Begins
2006 marks the 25th anniversary of
Triathlon in Manitoba. The first
event of our 25th season, took place on May 2nd with event
# 1 in the Birds Hill Duathlon series. One hundred and thirty-three participants helped us kick
off the season.
The event offered athletes a choice of two
distances. The overall winners for
the medium distance event (4k run, 24k bike, and 4k run) were Sarah-Anne Brault
and Jacques Marcoux. Both athletes train with the Manitoba National Triathlon
Centre (MNTC).
Sarah-Anne Brault, competing in her first event
as a junior, finished first in a time of 1:13:59. She was followed by teammate Erin Braun in a time of 1:18:07.
Rounding off the podium in third place was Lynne Laporte, who trains with
Tribalistic, in a time of 1:18:44.
Jacques Marcoux, won the first event of the
series in a time of 1:03:30. He was
followed closely by Patrick Peacock of Tribalistic, in a time of 1:03:39.
Finishing in third was Dan Morwood from Kenora in a time of 1:04:05.
The short distance event consisted of a 2K run,
13K bike, and finished off with another 2K run. The overall winners of the short distance event were Kimberly
Macdonald and Lennon Harder.
Kimberly Macdonald, of the Triple Threat
Triathlon team, completed the race in a time of 41:16.
Not far behind, finishing in second was Jenny Ayers in a time of 42:01. Rounding off the women’s podium is Dayna Hyde, of Tribalistic, with
a time of 42:34 .
In the Men’s short distance category, Lennon
Harder opened the season with a win in a time of 39:15.
Close on his tail was Darren Bittner, just 5 seconds back, in a time of
39:20. Finishing in third was Glenn
Romaniuk in a time of 40:39.
The next scheduled race is the second Duathlon
of the series, coming up on Tuesday, May 9th at Birds Hill Park East
Beach.
