July 12, 2007 --- Morden Triathlon
The next event on the Triathlon Manitoba Calendar is this
weekend's Morden Triathlon, which is one of Canada’s longest running Triathlons.
The 27th annual Morden Triathlon will take place Saturday, July 14th, with the Morden Kids
of Steel race following on Sunday, July 15th.
Saturday Events:
The first race of the day is the Cornman. The
Half Ironman features a 1.9 km swim, 90km bike, followed by a 21.1 km run. These
competitors will be starting the swim at 7:00 a.m.
The second distance of the day is the Appleman race, which is a 950 m swim, 30km
bike, and 7.2km run. This part of the race gets under way at 9:30 a.m. at the Colert Beach in Morden.
Sunday events:
Registration runs from 7:30 to 8:30 with the Kids Of
steel race starting at 9:00 and the Try-a-Tri at 9:50. Kids Of Steel is open to children
between the ages of 6-15. The Kids Of Steel distances are as follows:
6 & 7 years
50m swim, 1.5km cycle, 500m run
8-11 years
100m swim, 5km cycle, 1km run
12&13 short
200m swim, 10km cycle, 2km run
12-15
300m swim, 15km cycle, 3km run
14-15 long
500M swim, 15km cycle, 4km run
The Try-a-Tri is a great event for anyone interested in trying the sport for the
first time. It features a 300m swim, 15km bike and 3km run. The Try-A-Tri is open to anyone age 16 and up.
