by Kevin Miller
I was the Chair of the Information & Communication Committee,
and Committee members were Anita Miller, Jaclyn Vallis, and Carina Rondeau
(newsletter).
Triathlon Manitoba uses e-mail, our website, the telephone, our Spring
Newsletter, media releases, and our Race Line to communicate information to our
membership and others.
Goals:
- Triathlon Manitoba will continue to ensure that communication to the
triathlon community and interested parties is current, timely, relevant,
accurate, informative, and interesting, and that it promotes the lifestyle
values of the sport.
Strengths:
- Our 500+ page website is a repository of accurate, relevant, and
up-to-date current and historical information. This takes a lot of
effort to maintain. The majority of the almost-daily updates are done by
Anita, but I do the updates that involve website design or complex
structure. In my three previous years' reports (1999,
2000, 2001), I have thoroughly
discussed my goals and philosophies for our website. The website continues
to serve our staff, Board, and membership
well.
- The Triathlon Manitoba E-mail Contact
List continues to grow (it currently has over 700 addresses), and we
used it 16 times between February and October to effectively communicate
information about events and other happenings.
- All facets of producing and distributing the newsletter were the same as
in 2001 (see my 2001
report for details). Our Spring 2002 Newsletter
was an excellent publication.
- Jaclyn and Brent wrote and distributed almost-weekly media
releases to highlight our events and athletes' performances. They
were also posted on our website for our membership to read.
- The importance of the Race Line continues to decrease because of our
website, but it is still used by Kids of Steel participants to pre-register
for races and to get a last-minute update on race mornings when the weather
is iffy.
- Jaclyn, Anita, and the Board are not constrained by "regular business
hours". Phone messages and e-mail messages are checked and sent,
and website and Race Line updates are made, on a 24-7 basis.
