Volunteers
Triathlon Manitoba is a dynamic, people-oriented, volunteer-based organization that is always looking for more people to contribute to our success. If you've ever been to one of our Manitoba races, you'll know about the festive atmosphere and good feelings that make triathlon a special sport.
We are committed to treating our volunteers with respect, giving them meaningful work with enjoyable and challenging opportunities, and recognizing their contributions.

Triathlon Manitoba's Volunteer of the Year
This award was initiated in 2002 to recognize an individual who has shown a significant contribution and dedication to volunteerism for triathlon in Manitoba. Click here (Adobe PDF) to see the nomination form.
Prior to 2002, Triathlon Manitoba recognized outstanding volunteers with a President's Citation.
2009: Michael Klatt
Triathlon Manitoba 2009 Volunteer of the Year -- presented at the 2009 Annual Awards Evening. Mike will also be nominated for Volunteer of the Year at Sport Manitoba's Sport for Life Gala to be held in the Spring of 2010.

2008: Karla Budnyski

2003: Michelle Barnet
Sport Manitobas 19th A Night of Champions (formerly the Annual Sport Awards) ceremony was held on April 16, 2004 to honour 2003 Achievements. The Volunteer of the Year award is presented to one Sport Manitoba volunteer whose energy, enthusiasm, impact, innovative ideas and strategies, and commitment to their sport seems to have no limits. Triathlon Manitoba is pleased to have nominated Michelle Barnet for this award.

2002: Kevin Miller
Triathlon Manitoba 2002 Volunteer of the Year -- presented at the 2002 Annual Awards Evening.
Sport Manitobas 18th Annual Sport Awards ceremony was held on April 11, 2003 to honour 2002 achievements. Kevin Miller was nominated jointly by Triathlon Manitoba (TriMB), the Cross Country Ski Association of Manitoba (CCSAM), and the Manitoba Cycling Association (MCA) as Volunteer of the Year in recognition of his commitment in time and effort that go far beyond the expectations of even the most dedicated volunteer.
Among his many volunteer roles with all three sports, he serves on the Boards of both TriMB & CCSAM as the Secretary / Information Director. He is responsible for our extremely comprehensive and efficient websites, which are of great benefit/service to membership, and has increased the awareness of our events and profiles of our athletes. Kevin has a strong presence in our sports communities, as an active leader, promoter and friend of amateur sport in the Province for many years now. Kevin showcases his enthusiasm, enjoyment and support by promoting volunteerism, lifestyle participation and family involvement our sports.
He also manages to find time to participate as an athlete/association member in duathlon, cross country skiing, mountain biking, inline skating, and running events.
2001: Barry Briscoe
Sport Manitobas 17th Annual Sport Awards ceremony was held on April 12, 2002 to honour 2001 Achievements. The Volunteer of the Year award is presented to one Sport Manitoba volunteer whose energy, enthusiasm, impact, innovative ideas and strategies, and commitment to their sport seems to have no limits. Triathlon Manitoba is pleased to have nominated Barry Briscoe for this award.
Barry's leadership role as the Race Director for the 2001 Canadian Junior Triathlon Championships held at Birds Hill Park on June 9, 2001 inspired the Triple Threat Triathlon Club in Winnipeg to nominate him to the role of President last September. During his short period in the position, Barry has already recruited and helped develop volunteers for the clubs Board of Directors and committees, and he has initiated many short-term projects that have revitalized the activity level of the club.
As a first-time Race Director, Barry interviewed the Race Director of previous large triathlons at Birds Hill Park, and then created a specific plan that delivered a very successful race. He secured sponsorship, managed the races finances, directed race committee chairs, and pulled every loose end together to attract over 170 participants to the event. Barry documented his management plan for the future benefit of Triathlon Manitoba.
Barry served as a committee member on the Manitoba National Triathlon Centre (MNTC) committee. He assisted the committee with its development of a strong four-year strategic plan. He also worked on a financial forecast for the training centre that serves as an excellent planning and working document for the committee and staff in their delivery of high performance athlete and coaching programs. Congratulations Barry!

1999: Kevin Miller
Sport Manitobas 15th Annual Sport Awards ceremony was held in April 2000 to honour 1999 Achievements. The Volunteer of the Year award is presented to one Sport Manitoba volunteer whose energy, enthusiasm, impact, innovative ideas and strategies, and commitment to their sport seems to have no limits. Triathlon Manitoba is pleased to have nominated Kevin Miller for this award.
1998: Richard Gray
Sport Manitobas 14th Annual Sport Awards ceremony was held in April 1999 to honour 1998 Achievements. The Volunteer of the Year award is presented to one Sport Manitoba volunteer whose energy, enthusiasm, impact, innovative ideas and strategies, and commitment to their sport seems to have no limits. Triathlon Manitoba is pleased to have nominated Richard Gray for this award.
Richard dedicated hundreds of hours to Triathlon Manitoba's hosting of the 1998 Canadian Triathlon Championships at Birds Hill Park. Working under Race Director David Markham, Richard had overall responsibility for the venue. He planned the venue tasks that would be required to stage the event, and he recruited dozens of volunteers to help him do the long hours of hours of necessary work both before and during the event. Richard's outstanding effort was a major factor in the success of the event.
Triathlon Manitoba salutes and thanks all volunteers who are members of the triathlon community in Manitoba.
